Kofi Ababio & Sons Limited (KAS) is a professionally managed private limited liability company. It started in 1954 under the Gold Coast ordinance as a general merchant.
Kofi Ababio and Sons Limited was incorporated in 1969 under the Companies code 1963(Act 179)
The Registered Business of KAS Limited is General Merchandising including the distribution of household products.

The company started with the importation and exportation of a wide range of products.
In 1970 manufacturing started with the production of aerosol insecticide (ABATOX).
In 1978 production started in household products and distribution of industrial chemicals. Consequently in 1978 the current MD and CEO of KAS joined his father from abroad to add value to the already existing business, which was in a state of dormancy.
In 1980, Kofi Ababio & Sons Limited commenced the importation of industrial chemical in commercial quantities for mining and industry.
In 1993 the Austrian government organized a trade delegation on a visit to Ghana, comprising 120 Austrian companies. Deliberations resulted in the identification of the manufacture of household chemical products as lucrative because of the market demand.
After the seminar the company (KAS) was invited to Austria in 1995. The invitation came from Henkel-Austria, producers of over 80 different products including soaps and household detergents.
An agreement was signed between Henkel and KAS; Henkel arranged funding through Austrian Government credit insurance agency to acquire equipment and raw materials for the commencement of the liquid production plant.
Actual construction of the company’s current site started in 1998 and became habitable in 2001 when authorities from Henkel revisited the manufacturing premises to do installations of equipment and the final finishing of the premises which was completed in 6 weeks. Production then started on trial basis in 2001. To date not ruling out the initial difficulties, the company is on track producing various household detergents for the Ghana market and various institutions.
These comprises of washing of liquid soap, disinfectant, bleach, Hair shampoo, Window cleaners, degreasers, vehicle auto-body shampoo-engine cleaners.
One of the products, Crystal Clear Liquid soap was adjudged the best household detergents in 2015 by Entrepreneurs Foundation, Ghana.
The Chemical trading business grew with the proliferation of mining companies in the country and is now the cash cow of KAS Limited.
During the recession on the world gold market in the early 2000 the company exploited other sectors of the industry where public demands were high.
In 2003 KAS Limited further diversified its activities seeing the opportunity in the Real Estate Business and now added to its Business Portfolio KAS Valley Estates situated at Oyibi. KAS Valley Estates has built over 160 units of the following:
- Four Bedrooms, 2 Garages and Boys Quarters
- Three Bedroom-detached and Semi-detached
- Semi detached flats for the Middle Class
- Unique houses for the young elite and up-&-coming class
Other Business Units of KAS Limited are a Block Making Factory and a Farm at Bogoso, a Filling Station, and a restaurant at Oyibi.
